Local Planning Assistance Program
In 2011, the Greater Nashville Regional Council (GNRC) began offering direct planning assistance to local Planning Commissions by contract. While GNRC has long been active in planning at the State and regional level, providing staff planners to attend local meetings and provide more hands-on planning and regulatory assistance is a more recent addition to GNRC services. GNRC planners help communities with their Comprehensive Plans, 1101 Growth Plans, parks, and recreation planning, community facility, and capital budgets, subdivision regulations, and zoning regulations.
Communities that are currently under contract with GNRC for planning services:
- Town of Burns
- City of Charlotte
- Town of Coopertown
- City of Dickson
- Dickson County
- Town of Dover
- Metropolitan Hartsville-Trousdale County
- Humphreys County
- City of McEwen
- City of Portland
- City of Ridgetop
- City of Westmoreland
- Town of White Bluff
GNRC’s local planners work closely with member governments, local economic development officials, those with environmental concerns, and other planning professionals in their field. More information on planning in Middle Tennessee localities, and educational resources on community planning in general, can be found at the Tennessee Chapter of the American Planning Association website, and various reports issued by the Tennessee Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations.
